Cuadrilla is aware that South of England based activist group Reclaim the Power have announced they plan to front “a fortnight of action disrupting companies across the UK supplying services and materials to the fracking industry”. This campaign is due to start today (11th June). This is apparently to focus on Lancashire in particular.
We would like to remind anyone planning to follow this direct action that, whilst we respect the right to peaceful and lawful protest, they should bear in mind the recent High Court Injunction awarded to us on 1 June 2018 by Judge Pelling.
This injunction prohibits obstruction of the Preston New Road Highway or the shale exploration site entrance and also prohibits direct action such as blockades, lorry climbs or against named suppliers to Cuadrilla. Breaching a High Court injunction carries very serious penalties for those found guilty.
Francis Egan, CEO of Cuadrilla said:
“Having brought delay and disruption to thousands of Lancashire commuters last summer Reclaim the Power is now threatening to do the same again this year.
“Local people and businesses in Lancashire have made it abundantly clear that they do not want these self-publicising activists from Oxford, London and elsewhere blockading and disrupting Lancashire roads and business.
“With this High Court injunction we will not hesitate to protect the rights of our employees, contractors, suppliers and the wider community to go about their lawful business unimpeded.”
